Mike's Monday Morning Message continues the series to help prepare for 2021. We will use the Five Zones as a guide to ensure that all areas of the practice are considered as we prepare for the New Year.
The Front of House (FOH) Zone is the area of your practice that is traditionally “open to the public.” Every business has an area that is open to their customers. A grocery store is mostly open, while a restaurant may only be open to the hostess stand. Many businesses, including ours, have adjusted what is considered “Front of House.”
Typically, an eye care practice FOH consists of a reception desk, the optical area and an area for waiting. The tone in this area is often inconsistent due to the many tasks that we work to accomplish in this common area. In 2021, it is critical that you “Set the Tone,” especially as it relates to your patients' perception of safety.
We have all made adjustments to our protocols in light of the on-going pandemic. While there may be a light at the end of the tunnel, we still have a way to go. Practices and communities are widely varied in levels of changes that have been made to COVID-19. Practices that strictly screen patients prior to entry to the clinic need to focus on increasing the perception that people are welcome. By contrast, practices that still have an open door must add elements that clearly demonstrate steps that are taken to add safety practices.
In 2021, use the Front of House to“Set the Tone”for your practice.
